Context
Hors champs is a multi-episode series that unveils the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking spotlighting directors, cinematographers, editors and all the skilled artisans whose work remains unseen by audiences.
I took charge of the entire visual and motion design process from sketching out the concept to nailing the final habillage creating a distinctive look that really sets the tone for each episode. The project is currently in the funding stage, so stay tuned for the full official release later this year !
Approach
Hors champs is about the people behind the scenes in filmmaking, the ones you don’t often see. I wanted to create a bold visual identity that captures both the craft and the energy of their work
Persian Blue sets the tone: deep, night-like, and full of quiet intensity. White and bright yellow cut through with contrast and vitality. The opening sequence tells its own story animated moments that spark curiosity blending a modern palette with retro touches inspired by 80s 90s Japanese city pop. Glow, grain, thick lines and hand-drawn doodles give it personality and texture.
Overall, this project was a real challenge because I wanted to create something different finding the right balance between elements and textures from TV and documentary styles while still keeping the unique spirit of creative professionals. Since this is a series about the behind-the-scenes and post-production crew like us, I wanted the whole thing to feel truly creative and original.
